Dear members of PEMC Council, dear friends of the IEEE PEMC Conference
Today the sad news reached me that our colleague and friend, a long-term member of the PEMC Council, Vladimir Katic passed away after a short but serious illness.
The international academic community mourns the loss of Prof. Dr. Vladimir Katić of the University of Novi Sad, Faculty of Technical Sciences, who passed away on April 5, 2026. Professor Katić was a distinguished scholar and a leading authority in power electronics, power quality, and renewable energy systems.
Over a career spanning more than four decades, he made profound contributions to research and education, authoring and co-authoring numerous textbooks, monographs, and hundreds of scientific papers. His work significantly advanced the understanding and application of modern power electronic systems and sustainable energy solutions.
Professor Katić was deeply committed to academic excellence and mentorship, guiding generations of students and young researchers. He was a highly engaged member of the IEEE community, recognized as a Life Senior Member, and served with distinction as Chair of the IEEE Serbia and Montenegro Section, Chair of the IES/IAS/PELS Chapter, and Chair of the Life Members Affinity Group (LMAG). He was also the founder and President of the Power Electronics Society of Serbia.
He organised EPE-PEMC-ECCE 2012 in Novi Sad and was a long-term member of the PEMC Council.
In addition, he served as Chair or Council Member of several other national and international professional organizations, contributing to the advancement of engineering practice, policy, and collaboration across borders.
His legacy endures through his scientific achievements, his students, and his lasting impact on the field of electrical engineering. He will be remembered with great respect and gratitude.
